Flossing can be a frustrating task, especially if you have a hard time sending the floss between your teeth without injuring your gums. Although it can be a tricky task, it’s still vital for your oral health. Fortunately, you don’t necessarily have to use dental floss to clean your smile. There are other flossing tools in Logan, Utah, that you can use, and our dentist, Dr. Brandon Schvaneveldt, is happy to tell you all about them.

The first tool is a dental pick. A dental pick is a handy tool you can keep with you at all times. It’s almost like a little toothpick—only better. On one side, its pointy like a toothpick and on the other side it is shaped like a “u.” On the tips of the “u,” there is floss connecting them. All you need to do is hold the handle and send the floss between your teeth as well as clean the teeth and gums.

The second tool is an electric flosser. This tool is handy when you have spacing issues in your smile. There are many electric flossers to choose from, like air, vibrating, and power flossers. To see which tool is best for you and your chompers, please feel free to ask your dentist.

The third tool is an oral irrigator. An oral irrigator can deeply clean your teeth without the use of floss. It sprays water into the spaces between your teeth and removes the substances that reside there. To use it, you place the wand in your mouth, close your lips around it, and place the tip toward the space between your teeth. When you turn it on, it will spray the water at your desired pressure. Just move the wand from tooth to tooth and your smile will be cleaned!
