Summer is here, and with it come the outdoor parties, picnics, and family gatherings. This usually means there are lots of party foods! The next time you are putting food together for a party, remember these tips:
Go Seedless: There are few things as annoying as getting seeds stuck in your teeth. Not only is it annoying, but it can be damaging to your teeth, causing dental emergencies such as cracked teeth or damaged enamel. Serve buns without sesame seeds if you can, and try to avoid fruits such as blackberries, raspberries, or seeded watermelon.
The Right Crunch: Crunchy foods such as potato chips feed the cavity-causing bacteria in your mouth. Harder crunchy foods can also cause damage to your enamel, or even a chipped tooth. Instead, try serving crunchy fruits and vegetables: pears, apples, and seedless grapes for a fruit tray, or a veggie tray full of celery, carrots, and raw broccoli. These serve as natural toothbrushes, scraping plaque and food particles away from teeth, and stimulating saliva production to naturally clean your mouth.
Fancy Drinks: Instead of sodas or other sugary drinks, try serving infused waters! Delicious, easy, and beautiful, infused waters are low in sugars and high in nutrients. Simply cube or crush fruit, veggies, or herbs and add them to cool, plain water. Try interesting flavors, such as watermelon-mint (remember, seedless watermelon!), cucumber-melon, or peach-strawberry. Remember to use crushed ice!
